With Albert Palau on musical
direction and Magdalini Giannikou on artistic direction,
"Queens" is the title of a new multidisciplinary work created by
Berklee Valencia students, faculty, and staff, that explores themes
from the opera Maria Stuarda (Mary Stuart) by Gaetano
Donizetti. This show is conceived as a tribute to outstanding
musical personalities from the U.K. music scene, as well as a
reflection on competitive behavior and rivalry within the music
industry. The confrontation between Mary Stuart (Mary I of Scotland)
and Elizabeth I (Queen of England) is woven through the lyrics and
music of Sade, Kate Bush, Laura Mvula, Sinead O’Connor, Lianne La
Havas, Amy Winehouse, and Adele, to name a few. Through their lives
we contemplate on the weight that a crown can carry.Berklee a Les
Arts is a collaboration between Palau de les Arts and Berklee
College of Music that offers the audience new meeting points for
music and other artistic disciplines related to the pieces
performed at Les Arts.
