CABARÉ PIERROT
Ein Lichtstrahl by Alexander Zemlinsky 1871-1942Pierrot Lunaire by Arnold Schoenberg 1874-1951
The stage director Tomás Muñoz has created an intelligent, emotive
staging, complemented by the beautiful and effective costumes of
Gabriela Salaverri, which transports us to the atmosphere of the
Viennese cabaret in these two works about the loves and
infidelities that shattered the lives of the two composers at that
time. Zemlinsky's Ein Lichtstrahl, with the backdrop of a silent
film accompanied by the pianist Eduardo Fernández, is brought to
life by actors Pepe Viyuela and José Luis Montiel miming the
betrayed husband and Alma's lover, with Alma herself acted but not
sung by soprano Sonia de Munck. In Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire,
Sonia de Munck makes use of her versatile voice, formidable
intonation and acting ability to recreate Pierrot, one of the
benchmark roles of her career.
