ROBERTO DEVEREUX
Gaetano Donizetti
Tragedia lirica in three acts
Libretto by Salvatore Cammarano based on the tragedy
Elisabeth d’Anglaterre by Jacques-François Ancelot
Les Arts concludes Donizetti's Tudor trilogy with Roberto Devereux,
starring Eleonora Buratto (who sang in the previous two series),
alongside tenor Ismael Jordi and Valencian mezzo-soprano Silvia Tro
Santafé. The acclaimed Italian soprano, who has garnered public
admiration and critical acclaim for her two previous appearances in
debut roles (Anna Bolena and Maria Stuarda), crowns the project
with the latest and most complex challenge, Elisabetta, under the
conductor Francesco Lanzillota. The stage director Jetske Mijnssen
has created a production that explores the psychological aspect of
the four main characters, with a staging of a rather contemporary
aesthetic that involves the spectator in the emotions and suffering
of the leading characters of the melodrama.
