ROMEO Y JULIETA
Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo
The futuristic Romeo and Juliet choreographed by Jean-Christophe Maillot for Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo in 1996 comes to Les Arts nearing its thirtieth anniversary. The modernity and originality of this "youthful and energetic" version has triumphed wherever it has been performed. While respecting Shakespeare's well-known plot, Maillot creates a work of impeccable beauty that relegates the confrontations between the rival families to the background and plunges us through flashbacks into the depths of the soul of Fray Lorenzo, a man whose good intentions end up causing the death of the lovers. The exquisite score by Sergei Prokofiev is performed by the Orchestra of the Region of Valencia.
